Breaking the Chains of Violence by Julie McConnell

Breaking the Chains of Violence by Julie McConnell

This piece was inspired by the quote, “Break the chains of violence. Begin with life sentences. Move forward to help others,” by Dorothy Farbo. The piece is a digital illustration depicting two doves breaking the chain of a pair of handcuffs. One of the doves is a white dove, representing abolition of the current prison system, and the other is a mourning dove, representing the lives that were lost while incarcerated.

Medium: Digital Illustration

[Image description: The piece depicts two doves breaking the chain of a pair of handcuffs. The white dove on the left has it’s wings spread wide with its claws around the left link of the handcuffs, while the brown and grey dove on the right is in profile view, with it’s claws on the right link of the handcuffs. Between the handcuffs is a yellow light source. The doves appear on a soft pink background with the text “Break the chains of violence” in all black capital letters with a darker pink dropshadow.]
